1. Thanks for voting, here are my conclusions

First, thanks to “Paul” for creating a javascript/php based poll applet for me and apologies for not actually putting it online because I was too tired and fell alseep :D

Now, 350-400 people have voted already despite the poll applets being buggy. I think the conclusions are clear anyhow.

    1. Not even 5% of the people are really looking for 2200BG driver — 3945 and 4965 are what people want.

    2. Most people (86%) will either definitely or probably donate.

    3. Most people are okay with certain Airport functionality being replaced with custom config tools as long as their hardware works reasonably well.

    4. Encryption support was an odd one, there is no clear conclusion, but by a very narrow margin, I decipher that a higher number of people want the drivers without encryption or just WEP support first.

So, taking into account these 4 conclusions, and the ensuing discussion, my decisions are as follows:

    1. I will make the current beta version of Intel 2200BG driver (for unsecured networks) available without any bounty whatsoever. Hope this generates enough confidence in people. Dense has independently tested and verified it works well, but I cannot offer support for it at the moment (see point 4 below).

    2. I’ll continue working on VoodooWireless layer, with immediate focus on 3945 HAL and software WEP/WPA. This is what most people want so it makes sense.

    3. I’ll start taking voluntary donations now, and keep the whole bounty idea for later when 3945 is actually working. If you appreciate the work done so far, please donate whatever amount you think it’s worth :) [Details to be added soon]

    4. The source code for 2200BG is “legacy” now because I’m redesigning the whole thing to be much more modular. As such, there is no benefit in releasing deprecated source code, so I’ll hold back on releasing the source code until the new design is done. I’ll publish headers etc. so that others can begin writing HALs for various hardware already.

I hope this makes everyone happy.
